India has been in the market for acquiring a long-range air defense system. The idea was to have Anti-Access/Area Denial (A2/AD) near the border to counter Pakistani and Chinese aircraft and cruise missiles.
According to reports, India has decided to acquire 5 regiments of Russian-made S-400 Triumf advanced Air Defense Systems and the price has now been finalized.
Currently, Indian and Russian side are working to prevent American sanctions on India under Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) for buying Russian weapons platform.
CAATSA has been deployed against Russia by the U.S in August 2017 for probable interference in the 2016 presidential election process.

This was 4 years ago... I don't think anyone wants to invest in "Russian Air Defense" after Ukraine... American HIMARS shouldn't even be able to get near them yet they have destroyed countless S-300 & S-400 systems...Russia doesn't even want to deploy the S-500 out of fear of embarrassment... All of these countries looking "so wise" buying non-fielded Russian junk...
Because they are afraid of China and want to ride the fence. This is how cowards act. Will you please protect me I can't do it myself.
Everyone ses the s400 but people are taking Russia clames butbyou don't know until it used in combat Russia has along history of overrated the capability of there weapons
But the s400 is not doing that good in Ukraine its the first time it Ben used in combat but the patriot has proven it selve in combat allway back 1991 golf war

1 thing i allways remember is russia stood with the rouge country germany while it was under hitler and they became enemy after they tried to counquer them and stood with america and every other countries those of which are against hitler now it is standing with the rouge country china and china is caliming various territories pf russia and another comparable factor is nazies received raw materials from russia while they were friend now here china is also receiving raw materials from russia history does repeat i think anyway i love russia from india love america too want them to be together with india nad be brothers

India thought better and decided not to purchase any anti-missile/anti-aircraft system at all, and instead bought 5 Rafale fighters.
Good decision, the 5 Rafele fighters probably are a more effective deterrence, able to mobilize in any direction in response to any threat from any neighboring country. With appropriate armament, any one or two aircraft can probably deter nearly anything India might be threatened with, especially when you take into likely advantages of logistics (eg distance from airbases or transportation hubs for both sides to likely zone of conflict).
