are you saying that when the lens in taxi driver show the triangle shape, they are stopped down to 2.8 or wide open? i got lost a little bit there

stopping down by 2 stops would mean a f1.4 goes to a f5.6 for best sharpness then surely? Am i missing something guys?

So, what you are saying is that one has to "stop down" to f2.8 which would mean one has to have f1.4 lens to begin with. Now that's expensive.
